Raising Leaders, Shaping the Future
The question of leadership and governance remains central to Africa's quest for transformation and sustainable development. Despite decades of reforms and investments, Nigeria and many African countries continue to face governance-related challenges such as corruption, weak institutions, political exclusion, and limited accountability.
The demographic reality further sharpens the urgency of leadership renewal. Africa has the youngest population in the world, with over 60% under the age of 25. This "youth bulge" represents both an opportunity and a challenge: an opportunity if adequately harnessed through deliberate leadership mentoring and civic engagement.
The Leadership and Mentorship Initiative (LAMI) is conceived as a response to these imperatives, designed to bridge the gap between government institutions and citizens, fostering a new generation of ethical and effective leaders.
To be a leading hub for nurturing ethical leaders and promoting inclusive, accountable governance across Nigeria and beyond, creating a legacy of transformative leadership for future generations.
To mentor youths, engage stakeholders, and champion transformative leadership and governance practices that advance democracy, justice, and sustainable development through innovative programs and research.
The principles that guide our work and shape our impact
Our phased approach to achieving lasting impact
Establish LAMI's core operational framework, launch flagship mentorship programs in Abuja, and build a robust research hub focusing on governance trends. We will focus on community engagement and building our initial cohort of mentees and partners.
Scale our programs to three additional geo-political zones in Nigeria. Strengthen our policy advocacy arm and launch a digital platform for e-mentoring and civic education. Forge strategic partnerships with regional and international bodies.
Establish an endowment fund to ensure long-term financial sustainability. Cultivate a powerful alumni network to drive change. Position LAMI as a premier thought leader on African governance and youth leadership, institutionalizing our impact.
